BBL vs. IPL treatments difference
Innovative light therapy using lasers is known to combat signs of aging and sun damage. This treatment results in a refreshed, rejuvenated, and youthful appearance. However, there are significant differences between Broad Band Light (BBL™) and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) that are important to understand.
BBL Treatments
BBL™ is a light energy that regenerates and repairs skin cells. It is comprised of two or more colors, which produce a mixture of wavelengths that are visible on the electromagnetic spectrum.
BBL™ targets various elements in the skin, including brown melanin, red hemoglobin, and water. The use of a flash lamp produces many wavelengths simultaneously, and one device can be used for several different types of treatments.
BBL™ can be used for photo rejuvenation, skin tightening, acne therapy, hair removal, and targeting multiple skin depths. The light waves produced by BBL also stimulate collagen production, which helps reduce the appearance of scars and fine lines.
BBL is the latest and most advanced technology in light therapy, approved by the FDA. It can treat a wide range of skin conditions associated with aging and pigmentation irregularities with little to no downtime.
BBL technology is created by Sciton, a leading manufacturer of laser and light devices for the aesthetic medical market.
IPL Treatments
On the other hand, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments have been used since the mid-1990s to treat sun damage, age spots, rosacea, flushing and enlarged pores using targeted flashing light waves.
IPL is a technology that also uses high-intensity light to produce firmer, younger-looking skin with improved tone and texture, and increased collagen production.
IPL is monochromatic, meaning only one wave length, one “color” light. The range of light waves in an IPL treatment target melanin and hemoglobin, helping to eliminate areas of discoloration. (More about IPL technology here)
BBL vs. IPL Comparison
Although both BBL™ and IPL can effectively address various skin concerns, there are some advantages to choosing BBL over IPL.
BBL™ is the only treatment that can change the expression of genes associated with aging and longevity, restoring the genetic aging pattern of the skin. BBL has multiple, high tech, skin-specific light filters for the most customizable treatment and advanced cooling features for comfort and safety.
Patients typically require fewer BBL treatments (1-3) to achieve successful results, compared to up to 6 IPL treatments required for photo facials.
Achieving optimal results for pulsed light treatments is largely dependent on the expertise of the provider. For this reason, Sciton offers comprehensive training and advanced courses exclusively for BBL™ providers, like our Harmony Skin Care in Sarasota, ensuring that patients receive the safest, most effective treatments possible with the best possible outcome.
Clearer, brighter, and healthier skin can be yours with BBL™ by Sciton.
